UW AFSA Tax Clinic
I've volunteered at the UW AFSA Tax Clinic since 2013, eventually transitioning to more of a supervisory and advisory role. I'm not sure what my title is as I have many hats: lecturer, supervisor, webmaster, admin, and probably more. To this day I've happily made the trek back to Waterloo, ON every March to help University of Waterloo students file taxes for low-income residents of the KW community. Over the years I've developed procedures and policies for improved quality assurance, and created training materials used to teach over 1,000 students how to file personal tax returns. Along the way, I picked up some coding skills during my PhD, which I put to use designing and building taxclinic.uwaterloo.ca and the CATBUS, the ERP system that powers it.
